Building Healthy Communities Dialogues

Thank you all who attended Building Healthy Communities dialogues in 2008!

Hundreds of residents and leaders in the Canal, Novato and Marin City offered valuable input through community dialogues, surveys, and town hall meetings as part of the Building Healthy Communities Initiative and the Equal Voice For America’s Families Campaign. The local result is an updates “10-Point Grassroots Agenda” for Marin County, which will be presented at the Policy Action Breakfast as part of the 11th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Birthday Celebration on Monday, January 19th, 2009, form 10 am to 12 pm – SAVE-THE-DATE!

Here’s how to keep the action going between now and then:

About the dialogues:

A series of community dialogues took place in Marin City, the Canal and Novato in April and May 2008.

The purpose of the dialogues was to have a paused, insightful conversation about the issues currently preventing underrepresented communities in Marin from being healthy. They were open to all community members and leaders and meet once a week for three weeks.

A discussion guide is available for interested Building Healthy Communities partners to hold a 2-hour dialogue of their own. Organizations in West Marin and groups supporting youth and seniors are highly encouraged to join in the dialogues in this capacity.

  1. As some of you may know, lastnight (3/20/08) I attended a Media Training in Oakland, and boy was it good. The training focused on different ways to effectivly put your issues out to the media.and have your voice heard. I know the skills I aquired from the training will be very helpful in making sure that the voices of my community is heard. There were a host of different community leaders from different parts of the country that represented different organizations.
